6th Annual US-China Film Summit

The US-CHINA FILM SUMMIT AND GALA is behind us.  The level of conversation has been elevated exponentially. From afar, it may seem like not that much is happening in the China-Hollywood space.  Up close, there are monumental and momentous changes.

When giving the award to uber director Zhang Yimou, I told him that the very reason I became interested in Chinese cinema 30 years ago was because of a film he d.p.’d, YELLOW EARTH, and then the subsequent works he directed.  His latest, COMING HOME, is reminiscent of those early works and Gong Li has never been better.  They make magic together, and I don’t find that easily in anything these days.
