An Evening to Remember

This is how the whole evening felt —

— me with my mouth agape at the amazing people who came, who spoke, who shared in the festivities at the Academy Museum. I’m still taking it all in.

As I said, a pillar in my name was just an excuse for an amazing party, a celebration of different “families” of mine.

My Academy family, with fellow officers Isis Mussenden and DeVon Franklin...

My Joy Luck Club family, with actors Lauren Tom and Kieu Chinh...

...and with other pillars of our community: Lisa Ling, Daniel Dae Kim, Bing Chen, James Hong.

After the ceremony, we heard from amazing speakers, such as long-time buddy and former partner, Lisa Henson, and Bing and DDK, and incoming Academy CEO Bill Kramer, and outgoing Academy President David Rubin spoke. I so cherish all these individuals and can’t thank them enough for their warm words.

We heard performances from two stellar singers: Katherine Ho of CRAZY RICH ASIANS fame, and Malea Emma, a 10-year old sensation. Here they are with their beautiful families. To top it off, I got a certificate from our state Treasurer, Fiona Ma. And by the way, Californians, she is hilarious!!! Thanks to Julia Gouw who masterminded not just that, but the whole incredible evening.

I got to acknowledge the person who plucked me out of oblivion to work at Universal Studios, Skip Paul.  He is my first and most cherished mentor.

And words cannot adequately express my gratitude toward the amazing Julia Gouw. She is truly an angel.

An evening to forever remember.  I am thoroughly blessed.
